For full details, and for proposal submission, please see:<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div class=\"pf-content\">\n<p class=\"\"><a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/proposals.eaobservatory.org\/\">https:\/\/proposals.eaobservatory.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>The 23B Call for Proposals closes on the 16th of March, 2023 (2023-03-16 01:00 UT).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">If this is your first time using Hedwig, you should \u2018Log in\u2019 and generate an account. There is a Hedwig \u2018Help\u2019 facility at the upper right corner of each page, and individual Help tags in many other places.\u00a0Please contact us at <a class=\"\" href=\"mailto:helpdesk@eaobservatory.org\">helpdesk@eaobservatory.org<\/a> if you have remaining questions.<\/p>\n<h2>Hours\u00a0available<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<p>The median award of hours to successful program is 14 hours. This ranges to fewer hours in Grades 1-3 due to pressure and weather availability and more in Grade 4\/5. Awards range in hours from 1-80 hours in total.<\/p>\n<h2>Instrumentation availability<\/h2>\n<p>Namakanui is expected to be unavailable for 3-4 weeks in August due to receiver work &#8211; proposals making use of HARP in Grades 4-5 are particularly encouraged for RA&#8217;s available in August.<\/p>\n<h2>23B RA Pressure<\/h2>\n<p>Proposers might be interested to note the proposal pressure in terms of RA and DEC. The figure below shows the distribution of target RA proposed in the past under Semester B. When allocating time the TAC is mindful to ensure that time is awarded across a range of RAs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eaobservatory.org\/jcmt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/02\/heat_b.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-12799 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.eaobservatory.org\/jcmt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/02\/heat_b.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eaobservatory.org\/jcmt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/02\/heat_b.png 640w, https:\/\/www.eaobservatory.org\/jcmt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/02\/heat_b-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/www.eaobservatory.org\/jcmt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/02\/heat_b-150x113.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Weather<\/h2>\n<p>Proposers should also be mindful of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eaobservatory.org\/jcmt\/observing\/weather-bands\/\">historical fraction of time in each weather Grade<\/a>\u00a0in particular noting the wide variation in ours per weather Grade obtained in any one semester.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The Expanding Partner Program<\/h2>\n<p>PIs from Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Brazil and Argentina requesting &lt;15 hours will be automatically approved*** for time under the \u201cExpanding Partner Program\u201d \u2013 a program to encourage astronomers from new JCMT partners to make use of the JCMT.<\/p>\n<p><i>*** approval reliant upon the program being technically feasible, without clashing with existing proprietary data (as per observatory requirements), <\/i><i>dependent on\u00a0weather\/instrument pressures and\u00a0with adjustments in line with recommendations by the TAC.
