Acknowledgement for JCMT Papers

The following acknowledgement should appear at some point in any published papers containing data obtained with the JCMT:

“The James Clerk Maxwell Telescope is operated by the East Asian Observatory on behalf of The National Astronomical Observatory of Japan; Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics; the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute; the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand; Center for Astronomical Mega-Science (as well as the National Key R&D Program of China with No. 2017YFA0402700). Additional funding support is provided by the Science and Technology Facilities Council of the United Kingdom and participating universities and organizations in the United Kingdom and Canada.”

Authors are also asked to give the identification number(s), i.e. “Program ID”, of the program(s) under which their data were obtained, e.g. M07AU05, M07BC13, M07BN10, or M07AI24. We recommend that this reference to the Program ID be made in the acknowledgement section at the end of the paper or in the Observations section of the paper.

This project ID is included in your data files under the PROJECT FITS header.

Publications involving SCUBA-2 data must reference the papers found at the following link; publications involving HARP data must reference the paper found here. If appropriate, please also acknowledge the provision of visiting instrument(s).

SCUBA-2

Papers containing SCUBA-2 data should include the following sentence in addition:

Additional funds for the construction of SCUBA-2 were provided by the Canada Foundation for Innovation.

Nāmakanui

Papers containing Nāmakanui data should include the following sentence in addition:

Nāmakanui was constructed and funded by ASIAA in Taiwan, with funding for the mixers provided by ASIAA and at 230GHz by EAO. The Nāmakanui instrument is a backup receiver for the GLT.

Research Notes

Due to the very low word count limit imposed on published Research Notes, the below text may be used for Research Notes only instead of the aforementioned standard acknowledgement text:

“The JCMT is operated by the EAO on behalf of NAOJ; ASIAA; KASI; CAMS as well as the National Key R&D Program of China (No. 2017YFA0402700). Additional funding support is provided by the STFC and participating universities in the UK and Canada.”

Acknowledging pre-EAO observations

The following acknowledgement should appear at some point in any published papers containing data obtained with the JCMT prior to the handover to EAO on March 1st 2015:

“The James Clerk Maxwell Telescope has historically been operated by the Joint Astronomy Centre on behalf of the Science and Technology Facilities Council of the United Kingdom, the National Research Council of Canada and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research.”

As with EAO-era observations, authors are  asked to give the identification number(s), i.e. “Program ID”, of the program(s) under which their data were obtained, e.g. M07AU05, M07BC13, M07BN10, or M07AI24. We recommend that this reference to the Program ID be made in the acknowledgement section at the end of the paper or in the Observations section of the paper. The project ID is included in your data files under the PROJECT FITS header.

Authors must also cite the appropriate instrumentation paper for their observations as they would for current data. Publications involving SCUBA-2 data must reference the papers found at the following link; publications involving HARP data must reference the paper found here.

Maunakea Site Acknowledgement

EAO strongly recommends authors add the following to papers making use of JCMT data to acknowledge the cultural importance of Maunakea from which we are most fortunate to be able to undertake our astronomical research.

The authors wish to recognize and acknowledge the very significant cultural role and reverence that the summit of Maunakea has always had within the indigenous Hawaiian community.  We are most fortunate to have the opportunity to conduct observations from this mountain.

Data DOI

Authors are strongly encouraged to ensure their data are public and made available via a DOI (Digital Object Identifier). JCMT users can request assistance with this from the Canadian Advanced Network for Astronomical Research: www.canfar.net/en/docs/digital_object_identifiers/ please reach out to jsa-help@eaobservatory.org should you have questions.
